What it
actually is
Professional whitening works by allowing peroxide to diffuse through enamel into the dentine below, where it breaks apart the large pigment molecules that have accumulated over years of coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco. It does not strip, bleach away or damage enamel — the structure is unchanged; only the colour of what is trapped inside it changes.
The difference between professional and over-the-counter whitening is control. We know the starting shade, we know the concentration, we protect the gums with a barrier, and we stop at the right point. Strips and pharmacy kits deliver an uneven result at low concentration, and unsupervised high-strength products bought online are the leading cause of the chemical gum burns we see.
We offer both in-chair whitening for speed and custom-tray home whitening for the most stable long-term result. Most patients get the best outcome from a combination: one in-chair session to shift the bulk of the colour, then trays to fine-tune and maintain.

- Sensitivity peaks in the first 24 hours and almost always resolves within three days.
- Avoid deeply coloured food and drink for 48 hours — teeth are temporarily more absorbent.
- Use the desensitising gel provided before bed if you feel cold twinges.
- Existing crowns, veneers and white fillings will not change colour and may need replacing to match.

Does whitening damage enamel?+
No. Decades of clinical evidence show professionally supervised whitening at correct concentrations does not soften or thin enamel.
Why did strips not work for me?+
Low concentration, poor contact with curved surfaces and no coverage between teeth. Custom trays solve all three.
How long does it last?+
One to three years depending on diet and smoking. With occasional tray top-ups, indefinitely.
Will it whiten my crown?+
No. Ceramic and composite do not respond. We whiten first, then match any new restorations to the result.
