Overview

What it
actually is

A veneer is a wafer-thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front surface of a tooth. It is the most versatile tool in cosmetic dentistry because a single restoration can correct colour, shape, length, spacing and minor rotation at once — without the years a comparable orthodontic result would take.

Modern porcelain is layered by hand to mimic the optical behaviour of natural enamel: slightly translucent at the edge, warmer near the gum, with a surface texture that scatters light instead of reflecting it flatly. That is why a well-made veneer disappears and a poorly made one reads instantly as false.

We work minimal-preparation wherever the case allows, removing between 0.3mm and 0.7mm of enamel — often less than the thickness of a fingernail. Where a case can be treated with composite bonding or whitening instead, we will tell you so rather than sell you porcelain.

Who it is for
Teeth that are permanently discoloured and no longer respond to whitening
Chips, worn edges or small fractures on front teeth
Small gaps you would rather close cosmetically than orthodontically
Teeth that are slightly short, uneven or misshapen
Patients who have finished orthodontics and want a final aesthetic refinement
Benefits

Why patients
choose it

01

Stain resistant

Glazed porcelain does not absorb coffee, tea or red wine the way natural enamel and composite do.

02

Conservative

Minimal-prep designs keep the vast majority of your healthy tooth structure intact.

03

Fast

A full smile transformation takes weeks, where orthodontics plus whitening can take years.

04

Predictable

You approve a physical trial smile in your own mouth before anything permanent is made.

05

Long-lasting

Well-maintained veneers routinely serve for 12–20 years before replacement.

Treatment process

Step by step

01

Design consultation

Photographs, a digital scan and a conversation about what you actually want. We assess bite, gum line and lip dynamics — not just the teeth.

02

The wax-up & trial smile

Your proposed result is sculpted first in wax, then transferred into your mouth as a temporary trial smile you can live with, photograph and critique.

03

Preparation

Under local anaesthetic, a minimal layer of enamel is refined. A final scan is taken and precise, natural-looking temporaries are fitted the same day.

04

Ceramist collaboration

Our master ceramist layers each veneer by hand, matching shade, translucency and texture to your adjacent teeth and skin tone.

05

Bonding & refinement

Veneers are tried in with a temporary paste for your approval, then permanently bonded, polished and the bite adjusted.

Recovery & aftercare

What to
expect after

  • There is no downtime — you leave and go about your day.
  • Mild sensitivity to cold for a few days is normal and settles without treatment.
  • Your gums may feel slightly tender for 48 hours where the veneer margin sits.
  • Speech adapts within two to three days if length has changed noticeably.
  • We review the bite at two weeks, and again at six months.
Why our clinic

One ceramist, every case

We work with a single master ceramist who knows our preparation style and our photography, so shade matching is consistent.

Trial smile as standard

Never included as an upsell. You see and wear the result before anything irreversible happens.

We say no

If bonding, whitening or aligners would serve you better, that is the recommendation you will get.

Your clinicians
Questions

Frequently
asked

Will my teeth be filed down to pegs?+

No. That image comes from older, aggressive techniques. Our minimal-prep approach removes roughly 0.3–0.7mm of enamel and in some cases nothing at all.

How long do veneers last?+

Twelve to twenty years is typical with good hygiene and a nightguard if you grind. They are replaceable, not permanent.

Will they look obviously fake?+

Only if they are designed that way. We calibrate brightness to your skin and eyes, and we will steer you away from a shade that reads artificial.

Can I whiten veneers later?+

Porcelain does not whiten. We whiten your natural teeth first, then match the veneers to the final shade.

Is the procedure painful?+

Preparation is done under local anaesthetic and most patients report no pain, only the sensation of pressure and vibration.
